I have OCD. When I tell people this they just think i am a perfectionist and like order. In reality, my obsessive thoughts are about hurting people. I only found this out after visiting psychologists for 6 years and being hospitalised 3 times. I wasn't able to talk about these thoughts that were distressing me so much because of the stigma around mental health. No one talks about the realities of OCD, it is made fun of and used as an excuse. No one realises that having OCD is about thoughts that are so against your own character that they distress you to a point where you cannot function and you shut down. No one realises that people who suffer from OCD are on some of the highest doses of antidepressants that are safe to take. These things need to be talked about.
