I struggle greatly with workplace politics and behavioral expectations. It's almost as if complacency is yet another filter above my already daily struggle of waking up and just trying to be me. When did the quality of my work become "not enough" to get ahead in a creative industry? Is being "pleasant" now also a measure of professional success? While I enjoy watching things grow, I hate to watch them scale. Layers of management and the quieting of my creative input have me silently screaming at meetings. I once judged the quality of my workdays by making work that I was proud of, now a good day is any day where I can successfully "sit still and smile."
